For those of you who give pentosan...

How long after getting your horse injected (in my case - hocks and stifles) do you start giving Pentosan to help lengthen the time between injections?

Do you start immediately after or do you wait a few months until the joint injections start wearing off?

I started like 6 months after but that's because I didn't have the $$.  Ideally I'd do it like...3 months later?  Not sure if 1 month is overkill.....

Pentosan for all the joints not just hocks or stifles.

Right, I'm just saying those are the joints my horse has had injected.

I'd start the loading dose the same month you give injections and then continue to give it monthly. Might as well head off the problem instead of start the Pentosan when the injections start to wear off.

I planned my loading dose so that then my regular monthly dosing would fall on the 1st of the month.

Just WAY easier for me to keep track of when they need their shot.

I don't think you need to wait a certain amount of time after your horse just getting injections. They are different treatment modalities.

Does any one give Pentosan and Polyglycan? Or Adequan? I don't but know some that do and did not know what the benefit was of if it was too much. We do injections and Polyglycan but don't give the Polyglycan like monthly. About every 3 weeks if she is running, but if the mare has no shows for a few weeks, we don't give the Polyglycan until a few days before the shows. The mare is getting older so wondering if Pentosan would be a better option or if both works?

I give both pentosan and poly. The pentosan is more for long term, and poly is for pre race.

I personally have not used pentosan but a friend has all her 3 old horses on adequan, no injections, and then gave pentosan to the oldest who was always pretty lame, but the adequan just made him feel better in general. Now since the pentosan, that horse thinks he is a 5 year old again. It's been a really cool change!
