| This topic has been covered many times but every situation is a bit different right..
Would it be acurate to classify a horse "1D locally and 2D at big shows" if: They win or place in the 1D at jackpots with 50-100 entries Are top/mid 2D at shows with 400-500 entries .
I guess I should add that lots of these are in texas because that means so much more LOL. JK!
What is a horse like this usually worth if they have no bad habbits and require no maintenance.

| Sounds reasonable to me. As far as valuing your horse, there's more to it than that. I'd find a reputable pro trainer in your area and ask for a evaluation. And be ready to pay a fee - it will pay for itself and a trainers knowledge is their commodity so I've always felt strongly about paying for that knowledge. |

Honestly... If you are pricing a 1d horse, then it needs to be a 1d horse 80% of the time, no matter where you run. A 2d horse is a 2d horse 80% of the time. After that, it's pretty much a crap shoot. You know... around here there is no such thing as 1d locally unless you are running at really small, no added money stuff. You go anywhere that they have added money and it is going to be super tough.
My suggestion... post current results so people can see where the horse is at and go from there.
Good luck!

| Yes I agree, MN is hard for us because we have local barrel races 40-70 often... but someone will win at that local one and also win at the super shows. So I guess in my opinion, if I am running a horse that is running 2D behind someone I know is a super show winner, I have no reservations about calling them a 2D horse. Now my gelding is a 2d/3d gelding. He has run in the 1D but the very bottom and with a time that isnt typically the winning time in that arena. Therefore, I would never call him a 1D horse because his time was a 2D time.
As far as pricing, so many factors to consider. Breeding, conformation, temperment, etc... I know a lot of our 1d/2d horses generally are priced around 15k. They have decent papers, good conformation, limited to no maintenance and are fairly easy rides.
ETA - the 15k is typically a horse who mainly pulls checks in the 2D. Can hit the 1D but not regularily or doesnt regularily pull a check in the 1D.

Location: MD | It's always a little sticky when classifying top end horses. For instance, just a few weeks back, we saw a number of horses who have qualified to the Semi's for the American run and place in the 2D at the NBHA World Show. Now albeit, times were a bit slower than we might be used to in Perry, but they were that way across the board. To say that many of those horses are 2D horses would be a blatant misstatement. They just so happened to place in the 2D all that week. This does happen more often than some might have you think. My mare on the other hand, placed well up in the 1D in the 21 Race, the first long Go and clocked in the 1D again in the 2nd Go. She has also been known to place at the top of the 2D running against those same horses. Locally, she is a rather dominant horse. There are so many factors that come into play when it comes down to making those sorts of huge runs at 750 plus types of barrel races. |

Yeah I would just say he's clocked these times in these pens (at arenas that keep up with it) and just post results and they will speak for themselves. |

| with the way prices are right now I think 15-20 is about what most people would ask for the horse.. Not saying i agree with it, i think barrel horse prices have gotten a little crazy, but i think that would be fair |

Location: California | Question-- What if the "local" (100 or so entries) is in pens that NFR and futurity winners season at? Or also has PRCA horses that travel accross the country? Does that make your horse a TRUE 1D horse if it can hang with them, even though it's not a super show?? |

What is a horse like this usually worth if they have no bad habbits and require no maintenance. I just like the seller to be honest. Such as:
"Has placed 1D in races with 100 entries, but sometimes 2D. Runs mid-2D in races with 500 entries. " Etc.
Tell me what they have placed and how many runners there were. That's what I want to know. And links to show results are always helpful.
I would have no problem calling a horse a 1D/2D horse in the situation described.
No maintenance and no bad habits?? Still so hard to classify. Could be anywhere from $15,000 to $30,000. Hard to say on price exactly. Would also depend on the AGE of the horse.

When discussing a smaller race where there was a very nice horse I will simply say "Ran xx off of So and So locally". |

I think this would depend on what horses said NFR girls or futurity winners are bringing- If they're not bringing their good horses that have won, absolutely not. Super show or not, a lot of the people are going to haul the horses that need to be seasoned at the smaller shows, you have to consider the horses that you're running against. |

Their first string-- jethro and dinero for two examples.
also prca horses that run at the tour rodeos and futurity horses that have gone on to win and place in the top futurities across the country. |
