Purina equine senior is great ! I have a 19 yo mare that chokes on just a couple handfuls of pelleted feed .. I soak the Sr. & add about 1 qt or 2 of beet pulp shreds & she hadn't choked at all with it soaked. She came to me very underweight & within 30 days she looked like a different horse on just grass hay , 12 lbs of purina senior & 3 qts if beet pulp a day . It's good stuff !

Gave him the purina equine senior tonight and soaked it he ate all of it although he is not getting very much about 1/4 scoop. After eating I turned him out with my other two and he just goes off and stands by himself acts like he is depressed.....

Could you do me a favor and look at the ingredients on your sr feed? I've been trying to see it online for purina but haven't had much luck. I saw one from 2005 and it did list peanut hulls too.

I don't see peanut hulls in it. There is soybean hulls.

I stopped at tsc to get some chicken feed and looked at the purina sr ... no peanut hulls! I purchased a bag. I like the fact how quick it softens up with warm water. My horses ate it up without a problem.
Thanks for looking!

I have a mare that chokes frequently. she suffers from allergies. She is Purina Ultium and Purina Performance mixed along with 1 cup ground flax. I mix it with water, feed all the other horses and then add more water to make it a slurry. No problems when I do that. I have had her choke on soaked beet pulp so will not feed that anymore to her. She is not a fast eater either. Vet scoped her in the past and airway looks good but I suspect there is irritation more a times than others due to allergies.
