They definitely need a heat lamp in the winter. And mine seem to be a little picky
(much like my horses
) - if the shavings get wet in the box they will not lay until I put new shavings/hay/or shredded paper from the office. Haha.

Β I started with seven, hatched out another 13, I think. All are at egg laying age. I went from getting 15 or so a day to 4. Lol. But I know a few are molting and with the short days, I'm not surprised. Just bummed because I have a gal Β that buys 8-10 dozen a month.
My friend is exactly like this--she had a sign up in my business window for fresh eggs and her contract number. But she told me this week to take it down cause the girls were on strike! I figured it was the weather, but it sure did hurt her pocketbook!

I buy a 15% pellet
( egg layer
) , put a regular ole 60 watt or whatever I have and leave it on 24-7. I was late getting my light in the coop this year so they stopped for a bit but my hens are picking up the pace again.

They have a heated waterer and they get pellets - maybe I need to post pictures of a McChicken sammich on their coop!
