I had an idea to buy some riding boots only on trails or on rocky terrain. Is that hurting them in the long run though? Should I just keep riding them and find the softest ground I can find. One is a 5 yr old with flat feet and the other is a 20 yr old with super tiny feet
(has feet issues corrected with shoeing but sensitve to hard/rocky ground. Will the boots help or hurt them?

When I read flat feet and tiny feet, the first thing I imagine is
(flat
) long toes, under slung heel, and flares and
(tiny
) long, contacted heels. I would try to find a great barefoot trimmer or learn to do it yourself. I do not say this to offend; it's just what I imagine by your description.
Lots of good info online.

Boots will help keep them comfortable and promote movement which is great for the hoof.
I recently got these for my mare that foundered this season :

Boots would help them transition and after transitioning for ground like that.
