I am just curious to see who owns an Iris Joe barrel horse. My mom had an own son of Iris Joe, and he was the best horse in the whole world. She college rodeod on him, and ran him when I was little. She could go run a pattern to win the rodeo then stick me on and I'd trot pee wee barrels. Any of you have a grandson/great grandson of Iris Joe? :)

Iris Joe is a pretty well known sire in the Midwest. One of the “better” horses that I owned was a son of Iris Joe. He was the smoothest riding and smartest horse. Unfortunately, my husband stole him from me when he needed a penning horse. He won many pennings (WI Reserve Champion, among others) and also qualified him to the AQHA World show. I truly regret selling him as he was still running and winning barrels past the age of 20.

I owned a grandson of Iris Joe. He was kind of a turd (he was 5yrs when I bought him but he acted more like a 2yr old)  and our personalities and styles did not match so I ended up selling him. I have seen his name come up in the results at some races so I'm guessing that his new owner/rider must be doing ok with him....I'm thinking he should be about 10yrs old now....maybe it just took him a little longer to mature.

They DO have a little bit of an attitude. I think it is because they are SO smart. I got mine after my son had ridden him 30 days (as a 4 year old) for the owner. He was just a very quick learner but still had a quirk or two.

I absolutely love mine! She is as calm as can be, but quick and smart. She has taken this rookie a long way and I wouldn't trade her for the world. http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/iris+tiny+lace

They take care of their riders, but are very fast and can sure turn a barrel.

This is the horse I was referring to!! He taught me so much about horses, and gave me that horse crazy fever when I was little. He truly was a legend and could never be replaced, I miss him so much every day! I'll try and post a couple pictures!

How funny! I wondered if your mother wasn't the one who ended up with "Joe". I talked to her several years ago at the State NBHA show. I had walked up to Joe's stall and just spoke to him and he turned and immediately came over and put his head in my arms....I sure did LIKE that horse.
