So I'm starting to get the foaling gitters. This isn't our first, actually only my second, but its been almost 6 years. Interested in hearing what others like to have their mares on feed & supplement wise the final months as well as any handy must haves in your foaling kits, if anyone has one.

Our first for this season is due in February, can't wait! By tuff nuff guy (frenchmans guy X colonel freckles) out of a 1d daughter of smoke n sparks. Our mares are on a high % alfalfa roundbale and also get 14% feed 2x day. We bring them up to the paddock a month before their due date, and start stalling them at night 2 weeks prior. When they are really close they are only turned out under supervision. We also live in the north with bitter cold temperatures to deal with this time of year. Big things I have on hand are iodine, scissors, towels, shoulder length gloves, clean foal blankets, ect... We've got spare colostrum in the freezer if needed, and oxytocin if the mare doesn't let down her milk right away.

I'm low key with mine. Last one foaled in pasture and just gave her a little oxytocin to clean up.

A little different set up this year all 6 are running together so I'll separate her prior.. Nothing different on feed (renew gold, alfalfa, pasture -NO fescue on our farm). I won't bring her in until the week before she is due (end of March). I may even leave her in the big paddock depending on the temperatures which could range from still frosting to very warm..

I kinda hope she sells before Bc I won't want to sell after the baby lands, lol.

I don't have any input, as I have only bred and raised the one baby I have now. But, I'm super excited for you and Tilly!

Have two due in March, a week apart.
Haven't nor don't plan to change my feeding routine. They are both on a good 14%, high fat feed, add a handful of flax seed and minerals to feed twice a day, along with access to a round bale of good grass hay 24/7 and get 1/2 flake of alfalfa AM and PM.
Foaling kit? Hmmm, I keep Banamine on hand to give mare after she foals, enima, latex gloves, iodine and cotton balls, your vet's number on speed dial and a sharp knife. I also keep Probios and bio sponge on hand. Mine get a snap test and plasma at 24 hours old and another bag of plasma when they are three weeks old.
Please read up on red bag delivery. Had one in 2015, first time ever in all my 20 years of foaling out mares. If one of my buddies hadn't lost her foal the day before mine was born to this, I would have lost mine also.
Oh, and no doze and a shot or two of whiskey for you!
