What are some of your best remedies for rain rot/mud fungus? It has been pretty chilly here lately so bathing really isn't a good idea right now but i don't know how to treat it without bathing with antifungal shampoo. I have never really had this problem before but one of my horses has developed it pretty bad lately since i quit stalling them up at night (which is about to change as well) and with his winter coat setting in.

A bath or two is really necessary. You may need to haul them somewhere. The vet will also have an antifungal feed thru you can give them.

My two got it back this spring with all the rain. First time I've dealt with it. I had some fungus bath soap in the house and thought I try it and it worked very well. I can't remember what it was called, but got it from tractor supplies.

Some say sponging with listerine (original yellow type) works well but keep in mind the alcohol in it will make it sting on those scabby sores.

Some will do the systemic antibiotic or antifungal.

All I have ever found to truly work is to bathe a few times with the Micro-Tek shampoo. Winter makes this tough...but it's very effective.

Spray colloidal silver on it... It kills fungus.

We used aureomycin crumbles. Just put it in their feed. Worked better than anything else we tried.

we had one that arrived with it...Its a fungus so please dont treat with gasoline, etc. Use a good fungal med. Stuff for jock itch works great. Desitin keeps a barrier on it so it doesnt stay moist. Also we treated from inside out with Sulfa. Good Luck

I used to use an all natural spray from the local feed store... Had the word Frog in it and had a frog on the clear bottle it came in. I used it twice and it got rid of it. Wish I could remember what it was called.... Haven't seen it in a while.

I googled trying to find it and all google pulled up was a spray called Banixx?  May be worth a google. LOL
