How are the roads right now? What should one expect for travel from now until the end of the month? Are there a lot of road closures due to inclement weather?
Any advice/suggestions? I'll be out there for a week driving. Anybody got a spare couch? :) |

Location: who knows? | There could be some bad patches around I-70/I-15 at times, but like I said the temps are getting warmer, so shouldn't be too bad... |

That's what I am hoping for. I have never been in Utah. |

Location: Where I am happiest | The entire state has bare roads right now. IF and WHEN we get a significant snow storm Utah is used to it and they are masters at snow removal. They dont let it sit. |

Location: Montana | Was through there the other day (not from there). They were good, but big storm came thru over weekend...we were in Idaho Falls at the time, about a foot of snow, same storm went on to Salt Lake, bad roads then. Interstate is your best bet (we were on i-15) and they keep them plowed pretty well. It is really melting now, so should be fine. |

Location: The stix of Utah | It would be impossible to tell you what the weather will be like across the entire state for the rest of the month. lol Our weather changes on a dime and some locations get dumped on with snow and others rarely see a skiff. Around the Salt Lake valley you are likely to get in to at least a little bit of snow throughout your visit and the only road closures I would be concerned about in the case of a major storm are the 2 cottonwood canyon roads to the main ski resorts.
My first question is, Have you ever driven in snow before? I don't mean a dusting of snow either, I mean 4+ inches stuck to the roads? If not, just remember to give yourself plenty of space and drive slowly. Break (slowly) much further back than would seem necessary. Don't feel pressure to drive faster because a couple of road hogs are barreling down the road.
In all honesty, you probably won't have to deal with any of that, but we have had a much worse winter than we have seen in a few years with frequent sketchy drives in to work. I think my car has a permanent butt pucker in the cushions from this winter alone. Ü The good thing though is that after the morning rush hour the roads are usually fine and completely cleared by the afternoon.
Welcome! Utah is a beautiful state! Enjoy your visit!

One thing I will add to that, is follow the semi-trucks. They will make and leave a good track and they have a good idea of what weather and road conditions are like. Also, try to hit Salt Lake in the evening...we hit it on Sunday evening, still traffic but not as bad as during the day time or during rush hour |

I've tons of experience driving in snow. My biggest concern was road closures and what to expect so I can have a backup plan just in case I need it. |

Location: Utah | The roads are very seldom closed here due to weather. There are a few that are closed for all of winter not main roads. Our Department of transportation kicks butt in plows and they use salt that meltls the snow and ice. I dispatch the higway patrol and snowplow for the state and county. Some other states like Wyoming have more difficulty with wind and that is why the roads close. |

Location: Somewhere between S@% stirrer and Saint | We have the Great Salt Lake so they use a lot of salt on the roads. They don't stay snow covered for long after a snow storm. |
