Location: Never in one place long | My two boarder horses are insane! they rip apart a bale 3x as fast as my horses do and tramp it into the ground... they've gone through a large round bale in under 2 weeks... any feeders that would help save hay?! |

| We feed square ton bales of alfalfa in one of these. I feed 8 horses together this way and it last them 2 weeks. Very little waste.

This what I use also. Works great. I have three that go through a 900lb bale every two weeks. I'll usually move it when they get to the bottom hay so they can clean it up before replacing with a new bale. |

| Depends on what size bales you have. I have the ones for the small squares that I feed in when the weather is bad and I hang them up in the barn. You can go to www.haychix.com and they have for big round bales or you can google slow feeder hay nets. |

Location: Deep South | I feed square bales, but my hubby built me one of these to put them in. My horses were just like you described yours lots of waste and stomping it in the ground. These slow feeders, makes it last longer, and absolutely zero waste.
This is just the version he built for me, out of the scrap wood and grate we had, but if you look up how to build your own there's lots of different versions out there.

I really like this concept. No putting holes in a grate! I LOVE my haychix net for my big round bales, but dang it all if my 2 don't put holes in it.
Normal horses do not put holes in them and they work amazing. I just keep stitching mine back up. :/ NO waste though and bales last forever. |

| My neighbor had the haychix and said it was a pain putting it on the big round bales by yourself. I just hayfork off the big bales and only put out in the round feeder what they will eat without wasting so much of it. I know it is a pain when it is really cold and snowy out pushing that wheelbarrel through the snow, but if it is too nasty outside I just put the small squares in the small slow feeder hay nets and hang them up in the barn. Those have lasted me about 3 years now. |
