| How often do mares foal early? How early are your experiences? Just curious because mine is due on March 11, and have to leave town for a week.. left her with my vet to board while I'm gone. Curious if any chances she may foal when gone? |

| They usually wait until you leave etc. lol so yes good chance.... Mine usually go over but this year I had a mare foal at 328 days of course I had a stomach virus that night so that's probably why Lol |

| Most of ours like to go over. We had one go 370-ish days last year.... We kept telling her to just give it up already, but boy he was a big'un when she finally dropped him! There is always a chance they could go at any time. We had one mare foal in December one year (she wasn't due til Feb).
If she's foaled before, they usually follow a pattern, so if she foaled early/late last time, chances are she will again. |

Location: Peg-Leg Julia Grimm | Some mares go long, some barely past 320 days. It's the foal that decides when it will come unless there is a problem. I have a friend right now whose mare is 315 days and is really bagged up and waxing. She had the vet out to check her and put her on antibiotics and regumate to try to get her another 5-10 days. |

Location: Peg-Leg Julia Grimm | If your mare was last bred on March 11, she's not early if she foals right now. I have 2 mares who were last bred on March 14 & 15. They are ready any time. |

Not really in my experience. I have a mare that went 372 days with her first foal for me. The next two were 348 and 354 respectively. That's pretty much all over the place. |

Location: Keeping up with the numbers! | If your mare is at the vet while you are gone they can test the milk if she has fully bagged and dripping. When the milk gets to 40 she will most likely deliver within 12 hours. Let the foal bake as long as you can.
Best wishes! |

As with all things, all horses are different, but I've met several mares that seem to have a pattern. Probably a coincidence, but it happens too often for me to just pass as chance. |

Location: Where I am happiest | We have a mare that has had 2 foals so far and both she foaled 3 weeks early. We will see how she does with the 3rd one coming this year. |
