I'm going to start off by saying yes I will be taking him to weatherford vets to get a thorough check.  Just wanted some opinions.  I have a gelding, about 16 now that as a young horse was the most bombproof young horse ever.  I mean never bucked during breaking process.  As a 4 year old I climbed on him bareback in the pasture, nothing on his face, and he walked me back to the barn.  Eventually my husband started heeling on him and now he's a crazy loon that can't even be rode for a simple pleasure ride, is on the muscle the whole timea and looks like a big white snowball from the lather he works up on himself.  You can't pen him at all or he lays down like he has a belly ache, and his stomach is tight.  Can't turn him out on even an acre or 2, to him that is penning him up and he and stresses and lays down.  What the heck??  Hes San Peppy bred.

Ulcers for sure. Same thing happened with my husbands heel horse a few years ago. We bought him from Iowa so Im pretty sure the severe change of scenery caused them, but he was a perfect horse when we got him and within 6 months was a raving idiot... bucked on the corner every single run and was so hot in the box. would try to kick at you tied to the trailer. Treated him and he went back to being great. He was 13.

Yup Ulcers.
Vet is going to charge you an arm and a leg for Omeprezol or however it's spelled. Just know that there are cheaper places to but it.

Like everyone said, ulcers and I would check and make sure everything is aligned, especially his poll. From my experience, some horses can tolerate an out poll while it turns others into freakishly wild animals. :)

Check out horseprerace.com. Some don't like it since it's not FDA approved, but at $9 a tube versus $30+ it's worth a shot in my book.

On the $9 a tube how many tubes does it take to treat a horse. I've been told it takes a full 30 day treatment to treat them. I meant how many doses are in the 9 tube ?

Definitely sounds like ulcers. I highly recommend CurOst stomach! Way cheaper than omeprezol, and seriously worked miracles on my horse....

Ulcers. But when you treat him make sure you treat for Hind gut ulcers too. I use a compounded paste with Omeprasol and Sulcrafate. Sulcrafate is what takes care of the hind gut ulcers ,Omeprasol does the stomach ulcers.

After you treat for ulcers I would use U-Guard. My colt has been on it for over a year with no issues. He went from being hauled to trainer having never been away from home, being broke while there and straight into barrel training and there for 11 months then to the BFA Futurity with no issues of ulcers. It also seems to have a calming effect.
