I have a small 2horse bumperpull slant with a rear tack and dressing room. Thats all I can afford at the moment but its a really nice trailer and I have slept in the dressing room last summer because it was too cold to set up my tent. This summer, I plan on sleeping in it all the time. If my family comes with me, I will just rent them a hotel room. I do not feel comfortable leaving my trailer outside a hotel with my horse in it ( unless maybe I lock it) but I prefer to stay at the show grounds any way. Does anyone else do this and so they have any tips? I plan on buying a memory foam mattress at costco and cutting it to fit too....

I've slept in a friends dressing room before. We had an a/c unit and a ton of blankets. We slept pretty comfortably but we for sure needed a good stretch after we woke up.

I took a fold up cot, clean the area where the horses stand, and slept in there. Nice!

Just be careful as to the method you use to heat and cool the dressing room. To many lives have been lost because of placing temporary heat/air in trailers and get CO2 poisioning.

Hmmm interesting.... I usually only show in the summer and it doesnt get too hot. I wouldn't put a.heater or ac in with me...I have a big arctic sleeping bag. The dressing room is big enough to stretch out, the floor even with floor mats is just hard, thats why I want a mattress of some sort. When I slept in it this summer I was super worried and left the window and screen door open because there is a sticker that says "caution: sleeping in this area can be fatal" i dont know if there would be enough room for a cot in the horse area with the slant divider and tack. I cant push the divider against the wall because the tack room is in the way...

I use to scoop out the horse area and lay down a tarp then put up a cot. It worked, got stuffy quick when the breeze stopped though.

For co2 you need to worry about the generators of other trailers too, make sure folks know you're sleeping in there so they don't assume it's empty and put their generators too close. A battery operated co2 detector would be a good investment.

I have a similar trailer and considered sleeping in it as well. I actually bought it from a friend who owned it when we met, and she and I used to go to weekend trail rides in it. We didn't keep much in the dressing room, and she kept a folding lawn chair and put it against the long slant and put a sleeping bag on that, and I slept curled up on the floor on some blankets.

Now that I'm bigger, I we haven't done that in a while, but at the right temperature, I'd absolutely sleep in there again. I've considered sleeping in the horse area, except I dont have a walk through door, so short of crawling through a window, I don't have a way to secure myself in there, and not that I think anyone would come steal me, but I don't want people just walking by while I sleep. I would do as the others said though and just put down a tarp in the horse area, or a sleeping bag in the dressing area. Or sleep in the truck :)

Before you spend money on a memory foam mattress and deal with the automatic bits of hay and debris that gets in them ...

Measure your floor area and then go find a Coleman camping air mattress to sleep on ... on sale they are $30-40 and it is like sleeping on air .. lol ... after using one you may want one at home. They have a cigarette lighter DC air pump and you can put sheets and stuff on them ...

When it gets a little colder ... I stack some Harbor Freight moving blankets on top of it for added warmth .... that air will get cold thru your metal walls ...

GOOD LUCK

BTW.. Air conditioners running are OK ... it is the exhaust from propane heaters and generators that will kill you ... go to sleep and never wake up ... and it is CARBON MONOXIDE CO1 .......... NOT DIOXIDE CO2 ... .. FIRST ALERT IS A GOOD BRAND ...

Yes, it is carbon monoxide that is poisonous. Carbon dioxide is put in Cokes and other soft drinks. Carbon monoxide has no smell and the dangerous effects can last for months if you do live.

I'll chalk my mono/dioxide mix up to it being gorgeous outside and being stuck in an office at the time gazing longingly out the window...

How close is too close? In our 20' gooseneck we put the generator way at the rear end of the trailer, same for a friends longer trailer.

I had a 2 horse bumper pull and considered sleeping in the front, ventilation is what concerned me as there were no windows.

I ended up mounting a handle inside the back door with a latch high up so I could lock myself in.

Get a topper for the bed of your truck and some blow up air mattress.  Add lounge chairs, bar b que, coolers and have a great time camping out.

If you aren't using heat or ac, go ahead and have fun.

You will figure out how you want things set up. I don't like memory foam as it doesn't give enough support.

I seen on Facebook some people have used a bed sheet and sewn 4-5 pillows together for beds. Cheap and may be an option for you as it is narrow so you don't have to cut it, you can go a little wider with a king pillow, I know Walmart sells some for 4.00 each you can get a feather pillow for 10.00 then you would have a feather bed.

As for if your family comes with you, they can find their own hotel, unhook and you can stay at the trailer.

I did it for years.  Just make sure you can "lock" yourself in   You will have a lot of fun staying on grounds.
