| I recently took my horse to the vet to get him treated for the sarcoids on his ears. He had three, one on the inside of each ear and one on the outside of his left ear. (They were no bigger than the tip of my pinky finger.) The vet gave me this paste to put on them called X-terra. (I think that is what it's called.) He told me to put it on there for five days and see what happens. Well, it's been five days and his ears are practically mutilated. After one day of putting medicine on, his ears were extremely sensitive and sore. And it got worse and worse after each day. The last day his ear even started bleeding after putting the stuff on. I almost wish I had not even done this at all because his ears look so bad and are in so much pain. The hair is gone and the paste is so built up on his ears that I can't even tell if the sarcoids are gone or not. I want to clean his ears, but they hurt so much he won't let me touch them. Has anybody ever dealt with this? |

| I have a horse with one on his belly. It looked like a wart almost. Someone on here said that they had used Crest Tooth Paste to remove some, I tried it and it did help. Only problem was that I didn't shave the area around it and the paste made a mess. Once I finally cleaned it off with water the crusty stuff was gone and it was smaller. |

Location: North Dakota | My mare had a sarcoid on her neck for about a year and half. I tried the tooth paste and didn't see any results. Contemplated trying the paste you talked about or my vet suggested to cut it out. I opted to wait till winter try try either option (as it was bug season at the time) and oddly enough the sarcoid disappeared this fall and she has no sign it was even even there. I'm sorry the paste did such awful things to your horse's ear but I think that is kinda what it does.. almost burn it off in a way? That is why my vet suggested not during bug season as it leaves a wound that needs to heal. I hope his ears start to feel better and you can get it cleaned up :/ |

Location: In The Land of Cotton | The Xterra works on a true sarcoid. The area should have been shaved first and you should avoid getting it on surrounding areas.
I personally have used Crest toothpaste on a wart. It did work. |

| We had a mare who had a big, silver dollar sized sarcoid on her. Our vet wanted us to use that paste too, but I had heard horror stories from friends of ours. But someone told me to try the supplement Source (I'll put a link in below) and I figured I'd give it a shot since I didn't want to have to put her through X-terra. Believe it or not, Source worked and it is gone! The hair grew back and you can't even tell! Granted, you have to feed a little scoop of it every day, and it took 9 months for it to go away completely, but it did work!

Location: East Tennessee but who knows?! | I would be afraid it would run down into the ear & cause more damage... my mare had one on her chin. We had it cut off. |

| I used some stuff called 'good luck liniment'... I have tried every sarcoid product on the market with none of the working, except for this! |

| The X-terra burns like crazy. I'm surprised he recommended it for the ears. It will eat through the hair and skin. Maybe call and see what he recommends to clean it off the ears? Sorry you are dealing with this. I hate sarcoids |

Location: Florida | Regular Vitamin E capsules -pierce it and squirt on the sarcoid every day. It also works on human warts. I have tried it on both and it really works, ablet slowly. |

| I used the paste and the whole thing came off. Big raw sore and using vetrasin on it and it's almost healed. It was about the size of a half dollar when it peeled off. Now a week later about the size of a dime. It's healing great. |

Location: Wherever They Send Me | I am sorry your horse is hurting.
My horse two little sarciods (smaller then a dime), I used SLH Blood Klnz and a salve. They were gone in a few months.
My vet recommended Tea Tree Oil, and said he could get me Xterra, but it has been known to burn and be unpleasant for the horse. |

Location: Georgia | My vet prescribed me Aldara Cream. It's actual use is for vaginal warts on women. It's expensive, $6 for a tiny packet and it took me 7 packets. My mare had one on her stifle. It crusted over and pealed off like a sun burn. The hair is growing back now. |

Location: Kansas | I had a gelding that had nasty sarcoids. Best thing for him was to have the vet use Liquid Nitrogen, freeze 3 times, and they will eventually die off and heal. But you're left with white spots...which didn't bother me.
You might talk to your vet about that. It's cheaper than the Xterra and toothpaste didn't work for me. |

| Are you sure it wasn't aural plaque?
Are you sure it is not cancerous? Some sarcoids are cancerous.
My vet would always biopsied first then lasered it off, as there are different types of sarcoids some are caused by a virus that is transmitted in the blood.
