| Do you soak or not first? I just bought a bag of Standlee, want to start my hard keeper on this. Someone told me they should be soaked, but then I heard it doesn't matter. Is this like beet pulp pellets where people say you must soak? Just wondering what's the correct way! Thanks. |

| I'd soak them... worst choke my horse ever had was from alfalfa pellets. |

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | My older horses have a hard time chewing them without soaking. My 11 year old choked on them last fall, so his get soaked now. There were contributing circumstances, but I don't intend to risk going there again. My 6 year old is the only one still getting hers dry. I feed out of a pan on the ground with a chunk of Himalayan salt. |

Location: West Texas | No they don't need soaking. Pellets can be a higher risk choke factor. Some choose to soak for that reason, but most are fed dry.

Location: Mississippi | I soak mine. One horse likes his a little more firm, so I don't put quite as much water in his. I do give it dry as a treat (in a small handful). |

| I just started feeding them! At night I soak them along with my beet pulp shreds.. So they really aren't that soft by time I feed .. In the morning I have been feeding them a 1/2 lb dry .. I do worry about choking but mine all seem to chew their food .. But i do think I'll mix them with soaked beet pulp in the am too .. Just to be safe . I've dealt with choking & while I don't feel these 3 will choke , I really don't want to see it again :/ |

Location: N Texas | The two that are under 10 get alfalfa pellets straight outta the bag, dry (I also feed Standlee). My senior gelding gets them soaked overnight for his morning feeding because he needs his food softened. So I do both, depending on the needs of the horse. |
