Location: Southern Indiana | I feed Tribute Kalm n Ez and to add weight your not feeding enough. I really don't see the benefit of adding in the k finish and essential gc. Stick to one formulation and feed about 4lbs lbs per feeding (if feeding the Kalm N Ez). You can back off once he fills in. Adding in alfalfa will also help a lot. Kalm Ultra is a great formula if you want something higher in fat. My colt is really starting to fill out on the 8 lbs a day with alfalfa and grass hay. He gets nothing else. My easy keepers only get about 2lbs a day. |

Location: Heart of Texas | I have an 18 yo OTTB and after trying EVERY senior feed with no luck for his topline I switched to Renew Gold and Alfalfa and have seen a difference. He gets 1.5lbs a day (he's a hard keeper), a flake of alfalfa, and free choice grass. Because you don't feed a lot of Renew Gold be sure to weigh it. Trust me, a pound is a lot less than it looks. And your pocket book will thank you. |

Location: East Tennessee but who knows?! | Definitely weigh your feed. I think a 3 qt scoop of Tribute weighs 3.5-3.8 pounds and if I remember correctly they recommend 10-12 pounds of Tribute for a 1,000 pound horse. If you're feeding a cup, my guess is you're feeding about half of that. I have found anytime you feed a prefix feed, you have to feed the max amount to harder keepers unless you're feeding the best hay money can buy.
Alfalfa and rice bran are what I use to get condition, but every horse is different. My OTTB is on straight grains (2 gallons twice a day), rice bran, super sport, filler grass hay (all he'll eat) and good alfalfa hay. Top pic was about a month ago, bottom when he first came -- he went from 1310 pounds to the weight tape not even touching. He's picked up even more than this pic. I tried him on Tribute and he wouldn't stay on it but the grains his appetite has done marvelous.
