Who can tell me the differences between a Charmayne James, Buster Welsh, and a Mark Walker tree? I heard that the CJ fit narrower horses better but that was a long time ago. Thoughts?

The way saddle trees get a "name" is by the shape of the pommel/swell. With a custom built saddle, any kind of bars could be put on a tree so your question is near impossible to answer. For example, I can get a BW tree with heavy roping bars, and any gullet width, and it'll be fitting very different than a BWBR made by let's say, Tod Slone.

Thank you! I've been looking at two saddles, one with a charmayne and the other with a Martha.

CJ's by Cactus are a 7 inch gullet and flared bars, so they fit broader horses best I've found.

That's a pretty broad question. Not all Buster Welch's fit the same and not all CJ's fit the same, I can't speak for the Mary Walker's, I don't know much about them, but I believe she only has one tree out at this time.

But for instance the CJ's made by Cactus vs the ones made by Reinsman are completely different. To lump them in all together will give you conflicting info.
