I have this friend that use to ride years ago and she quit.  Now she is riding again but is having trouble getting in the saddle.  Its like she doesn't have the leg strength or something I am not sure she tries but she ends up pulling with her arms to get up into the saddle. I have made a few suggestions to her but I was wanting some more help from you guys. Is there exercises she should be doing or what I have never had this kind of problem so its hard for me to help her. She has had a lot of accidents in the past so I am not sure if her legs might be weak or what she use to be an awesome rider she rode a lot of rodeo for 20 + years so I am not understanding why she is having so much trouble. HELP PLEASE

 Squats, lunges, just walking.
Until she builds some strength just use a stool. No shame in that!! Better than pulling on the horse's back.

I feel for her. This is going to be me.  Even when I was young and skinny it seemed liked it was harder for me then it was for other people.

How close is she to the horse?  She might be standing too far away.

after 2 c sections i just don't have the abs for it.  I know i could be in better shape too.  my chiro rides english and can't understand why we western folks don't use a mounting block!!  she says even if you can get on easily its still hard on the horses back.

I taught my mare to move over to me.  So i can stand on about anything and she will move to me so I can get on.  Bucket, fence, fender, log whatever.  its great!!

This made me think about my bareback mounting skills LOL. My gelding will also stand next to anything like a rock. But I pretty much have to be above him to mount bareback, so not talented there. Last time I tried jumping I smacked him in the side and he just looked at me like "Get it together mom".
