Location: Hill Country of TEXAS!! | My retired broodmare is one of those horses who attracts every fly in the area to her. They attack her legs and eyes. Shes always been home with me to spray her down, make sure her fly mask isnt causing issues, etc. Shes now turned out on my going to be mother in laws large ranch.. What are the best options to protect her this spring/summer that wont get her in trouble being turned out? They are checked on daily but shes on 400 acres with 3 of my other horses. Leg bands, Shoofly leggings, Fly sheets, fly mask with ears and nose?
TIA! |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | The ones I want fly/UV protection on I use the Kensington protective sheets. I have had excellent results and their customer service is A+ too. Mine are in a pasture that is around 500 acres and has some trees. They have matching masks/leg wraps/necl cover/sheets. I have a green plaid set I am wanting to sell. Includes 2 masks, 78" sheet, belly band, 4 leg wraps and I thought I had a neck cover but haven't come across it yet. $100 |

Location: WI | Shoofly leggings are AWESOME and hold up great. I have a mare that lives in hers 24/7 turned out and I've never lost one. I think because I didn't take them off and on a lot so the velcro stayed strong. I rode her in them even, the only time they came off was when we went to a show. I would suggest getting bright colors in case you do lose them, then they are easy to spot in a pasture (although 400 acres may not make a difference). They are breathable, do not rub or really touch the legs to cause any irritation. Sometimes the back ones will get poop piled in the back of them I noticed a handful of times. |

I love the shoofly leggins. Out in the pasture mine will sometimes get grass stuck in the felt part but they really do hold up well. |

| Love Shooflys! Just ordered my second pair for my other horse. I have orange which has been nice since my gelding managed to get one off most times. They hold up in mud. I have rode in mine also. Flexible. Second color I chose was blue. |

Location: Florida.. | I realize this is pretty strong stuff but for dire situations I have used this for outside pasture horses. I spray under stomach and legs and it works wonders.. they have stable spray as well.. its tough and gets the job done.Id not use it on nursing mares.. its potent.. http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/country-vet-instant-knockdown-185-oz?cm_vc=IOPDP1

Location: South Dakota | I agree with everyone else on the Shoo Flys. I had a 30 year old horse that was turned out in a pasture and he wore them 24/7. I don't think he ever lost one. Just make sure you get a bright color so you can see them. |

| Shooflys rock!
I also lather up my horses ears with SWAT since they seem to attract the midges in 'em. I have used fly masks in the past but mine seem to do well without them. |

Do the Kensington sheets not rub them? I got a cool coat (sp?) last year and it rubbed my mare raw right on her withers. I'm thinking of trying another brand this year. TIA! |
