| I want to know what you do/ have had the best results with for your horse.
What is your routine for Trailering, Pre Workout, Post workout, Pre Competition, and Post Competition.
Liniment, Poultice, Ice, Heat, Cold Hosing, Magnets, Wrapping, etc.
Thanks! I do a quick rinse of the legs after workout and comp and know I should be doing better about making sure they feel and stay feeling amazing! TIA

| This was our routine before we stopped racing at least. haha
We have Professional Choice standing wraps on whenever trailered or stalled.
Before race, warmed up then flexed, always with front professional choice ventech elites, bell boots, and back polos.
After race, hosed off, cold hose front legs 10 minutes each, liniment bath and gel liniment applied to back and girth area. Then cool pac jelly on legs and rewrapped with the standing wraps.
Before workout, front elites and bell boots and back polos on.
After workout, hosed off, cold hose legs 10 minutes each, liniment bath, and gel on back, legs, and girth area. No wraps since she would go back to pasture.
She was a high maintenance horse though with a lot of old wear and tear. Her back, sides, and her front legs would majorly swell if you skipped any of the post race/workout steps or didn't wrap her legs when stalled/trailered long distance.

Location: North Dakota | At runs I use standing wraps when stalled with poultice or liniment before/after. Magic cushion before/between/after.
I have now gotten some PHT Magnacu prodcuts and I will start using those instead of standing wraps before/between and after.
I also cold hose during warm months after hard work outs along with a liniment bath but I will be skipping the liniment bath this summer once I save up for a Magnacu sheet from PHT.
If you don't go for the PHT prodcuts, I think one of the next best things you can do for your performance horse is poultice with standing wraps and cold hose off after it dries. That keeps them feeling great after runs/workouts.

| I'm also interested in hearing what everyone does. What do you do in the winter after a run to cool down legs and muscle soreness? Is this when you start using your pht blankets and wraps more? | |

Am I really the Weirdo?

Location: Kansas | I have a mix of magnetic and Back on Track products for my horses as Streak really likes magnets but my others don't respond as well to magnets as they do to ceramic therapy. My horses wear their therapy sheets (my BOT sheets also have BOT neck covers attached) and leg wraps (BOT quick wraps or no bows w/standing wraps and hock wraps, or magnetic quilt wraps and PHT 3-n-1s) on their way to races and while standing at the trailer. I also have Soft Ride boots for each horse (full set for both rodeo horses and front Soft Rides for Streak & Joker who don't like to wear them on their back feet). Pre-race - They all get a dose of Air Power (oral cough syrup that opens up their airways), usually some Clearex rubbed in their nostrils and a nice lengthy warmup with lots of walking. Lately I have been rubbing hocks down with Thermaflex before starting my warmup. Post-race - Everyone gets stripped immediately. I pull leg wraps or boots first, rub legs down with Sore No More, walk them some, then pull saddles and walk more. After they have cooled out and relaxed some more, I'll put magnets back on Streak. I make sure I wait at least an hour after they ran before I put BOT sheets or leg wraps back on. For longer trips home from races (30 minutes or less), I'll leave their legs naked but on the long trips home from rodeos, I'll cover them back up in their BOT goodies for the ride home. I don't do anything special after workouts, though I do try to always let them roll. I have some serious rollers!
