| Let me see if I can make this make sense:
I am looking to add some fence to section off areas in my field to turn out some horses that I want to keep away from the rocky parts of our fields, the only problem is it has to be something that we can put up and take down if an emergency due to the way our barn, arena, and entrances are located (not planned out well). We have two strand electric ribbon in one of our fields to keep the horses away from the hanger and while it stays up pretty well, I have never used it as a primary fence. The area the horses would be in would be 50% bordered with sturdy fences while the other half would make the smaller paddocks within the enclosed larger field.
My question is, would just a two strand electric ribbon suffice or should I look into something else/ higher? |

Location: Somewhere between raising hell and Amazing Grace | I know alot of people don't care for the steel t posts, but we have used them without issues. We keep the fence well maintained with caps and check it often. They can be easily moved (with some muscle power), and gives you the option for 1 through 5 strands of hot wire if need be. |

Location: Kentucky | I use the fiberglass poles from Tractor Supply. They are $1.89 I think. I use three strands of braided rope and it keeps mine it. I do keep my fence hot, but they respect it. I can take the poles down easily and move them if need be. I think it just depends on how well yours respect a fence. |

Location: Washington. (The DRY side.) | It really depends on your HORSES. My mars stay in a SINGLE strand of hot fence. (Even if it isn't turned on.) (t isn't the "tape" but it isn't straight wire either.) I use t posts and rebar posts.

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | My cross fencing is the step in posts with 2 strands of electric tape. I've only had a horse go through it once. He was blanketed, which I guess made him brave, but he's never done it again, so I'm guessing the fence got him partway through. The donkey will go under it, but he stands and listens to the pulses and times it. |

Location: Oklahoma | we did t-posts with the hot tape on our pasture. It has held up for 2 years and counting. Only have one strand lit up.

Ditto. My old guy would stay in a pen made out of hay string if I needed him to.
If the fence isn't hot, you run the risk of the horses sticking their heads over or through it to eat the grass and tearing it down, so I recommend either fiberglass posts or t-post and hot wire/tape/whatever. But like RacingQH said, it depends on your individual horses and how well they respect fences. |

| Thanks everyone! My horses are pretty mild so I think they will be just fine but I love the ideas that add that extra little safety. I would confine them to a pillowed room if I could... |

The fence is electric - they don't come NEAR it! LOL |

Location: Washington. (The DRY side.) | Mine have more determination to mess with stuff than they have fear of the electricity! I even have to tie the electric fence handles to the posts with twine as they will open them!

Location: Peg-Leg Julia Grimm | I have nothing but electric string wire cross fencing. 2 strands. But I warn you about the tape vs the string. The tape doesn't seem to have the punch that the string does. I like to use one strand of each. But the bottom strand I make string so it shocks the babies good when they get into it. The older horses have learned their lesson well. Most don't mess with the fence except if they roll too close to it. In that case they do get into it and the fence breaks which means they don't get a scratch on them. I'm happy. |

Location: SE Louisiana | We had a bunch of tire rims laying around and dad welded T-posts to them. Easy to move. We used them to hold hot wires and/or stock panels. |
