| I'm producing a race in a couple months and need a way to do a random draw WITHOUT using Charlie horse. What does everyone else do to create their draw at races with maybe 100 riders? |

Location: sunny california | I have seen some races sighn everyone up in order, then they draw a number and that is number one. they renumber the list starting with the drawn number. the nice thing about that is riders can space themselves out with multiple horses |

Location: Montana | Some people do it with poker chips that they tape numbers on, say 1 thru 100 (depending on the size of the barrel race, of course). They did that at the very first barrel race I entered, that is how come I remember. You basically draw a poker chip out of a bowl, and that is the number you get. Obviously if you draw #5 and no one draws #'s 1, 2, 3, or 4, that person is the first in the draw, and as I'm sure you understand it is the same way the whole way up. Its a really simple and fairly inexpensive draw process.  |

Location: west of East Texas | The poker chip things works really well if this is being done manually. You can also separate the chips into several bags and let them choose a general time to run. This helps people with multiple horses make sure they are spaced out enough. Put 1-30 in the first bag, 31-60 in a second bag, etc. |

Very similar to this concept - I've been to races when the draw was manual - they bought little round stickers and wrote the draw number on them. Then you fold the sticker in half and put a paper clip around it. Divide them up into multiple bags (just like the chips). People draw a sticker as they enter and they put the sticker on the entry card. Simple, quick & fair.
Then you can organize the entry cards by time as they run - makes it easy to do results for races with under 100. I prefer rodeogo for larger races, but if you're going to do it manually, this might be easy. |

| we had the poker chips numbered with permanent marker in containers like above stated. 1-31 in one container etc. people would go through the chips to pick their number fill out their entry with the number at the top and take their chip with them to the person taking the money, that way the chips did not get used again. Everyone picked their own number so everyone was happy. Some people like to be in the first 20. Others like to be in the forties, etc. |
