Location: Kansas | My mare decided that after almost finally healing up from a de-gloved front leg, to lose half of her back foot. The vet was going to cast it, but my mare is so anxious in a stall that he decided that she'd probably pace and cause sores. She's in a soft bandage now, meaning that it's going to take longer to heal since she'll be flexing the hurt area. She has been on the loading dose of Resperdine for a week now and is still wound tight. Do you all know of any supplement that I could give while she's on the Resperdine that would help take the edge off for her? Poor thing is miserable.

Location: WI | Try and up her reserpine? What does the vet say? Maybe a different sedative? Reserpine didn't make my injured horse completely sedate, but it did help some. I found it was better to give the powder every other day rather than the shot. |

I am giving the oral paste at the loading dose (I believe it is either 2 or 4 CCs... I can't remember what each mark represents), but I was supposed to cut it in half after four days. I just haven't had a chance to give my vet a call yet today, and figured I'd get some great advice from everyone on here :) |

Location: west of East Texas | Ugh! I feel for you. I went through this for the better part of last year with one that failed in the stall rest department. I never found anything that calmed her enough to stay at home where her buddies were. She ended up staying at the vet clinic until she was healed enough to hobble around the pasture. She still gets anxious and weaves at her stall gate if she thinks I'm going to keep her up even though it's been six months since I did. I hope you find something that works. |

Cut her feed at least in half, or down to 1/4 of what you were feeding. Load her up with hay. That worked wonders on one I had on stall rest for a while. As soon as I cut the feed way back, the energy was gone.
Also, if she's in the barn alone you may want to leave another horse in so she won't be alone.
