5 Star pad thickness???

I want a new 5 star for my new horse but I can't decide between getting a 3/4 or 7/8? So far I have a 1/2" one that's too thin for him and a 3/4 Tod Slone that I've been using on him, so you would think I should get 3/4 but the Tod Slone seems thicker than 3/4 even though I know that's what it is since I ordered it
(maybe it's because it's not as soft as a 5 star and doesn't compress down as easily, who knows
).
He's in the process of putting on weight/muscle so that's another issue - he has high withers and a slight dip behind the shoulders. Don't want to get a 7/8 and need a 3/4 or visa versa. I feel like a thicker pad would help the skirt and back end of the saddle sit more flush on the pad but I worry it would be too tight on his shoulders.
Help me please 5 star lovers! Lol

If your saddle fits good then the 3/4.

Thank you both! That's what I was leaning towards but kept second guessing myself. I'll order the 3/4! :

3/4 or try the half with shims to help the saddle sit level
