Stifle Injections

I have an appt on Tuesday to have my mare to get looked over... likely will be getting her stifles injected. I am expirienced as far as hock injections, but never had a horse that got stifles injected... Any tips or questions I should ask my vet? I keep hearing that there are 3 joints to be injected in the stifle, but most vets only do 1? Is this true? Also, how many days off were you told to give your horse after injecting?
Thank you!

Most vets only do one. I had a horse that had to have the ligament injected. Had to do it with a long needle . Only vet I know that does it is Dr Hall in Pasadena, Texas

My vet explained to me that the stifle joints " Communicate" with each other and compensate. Although there are a few joint capsules in the stifle, 80% of horses have problems with only one
( The same one, I can't remember the name
), so vets will inject that one first and almost ALL the time that fixes the problem. Hope that helps.

Ok - Well that does make sense! Thank you!
How many days off do you need to give off? Should I cold hose at all or just leave them only?

After ANY joint injection you want to keep the area as DRY as possible for 48 hours. Your vet will probably prescribe bute for a few days in case their is a joint flare. In general you usually give 2-3 days off then just walking streight lines, jog, etc. Usually return back to full work within a week according to my vet but yours might be different.
