Elite Veteran Posts: 928 Location: Northern CA	While I live only 2 hours from tahoe, we rarely ever go. If we do, it is for a wedding or like function. It is a beautiful spot, but if you are not skier or snow bum, I am not really sure what activities it offers. There are a lot of hiking/biking opportunities.

There is the gondola to ride ($$) but at the end there are trails you can hike or bike if you like that. There is a neat hike down to the lake with some waterfalls and a neat home on the west side. I think it's called Vikingholm or something like that. Zephyr Cove has a nice little beach but it can be crowded in the summer. You may be able to rent kayaks or paddle boards there or nearby. They have a website. I know there is also a place to ride horses too. The trail ride through the mountains is something different if you only have flat land like I do.

My wife and daughter always want to go to the beach somewhere (I am sure they will still do that anyway). We have a friend with a nice weekend house we can use close to Truckee. So I figured I would take advantage of a free car to use and a free place to stay to cut the cost of our trip. What about cool stuff in Sacramento if the girls want to do the city/shopping thing?

So what are the attractions in the area worth seeing and doing within a few hours of there?
