I have done some research and all the posts I have found is that Rinitidine pills can be crushed ( In my case coffee grounded) and fed to a horse and it does not get destroyed by stomach acid like Omeprazole does. Ranitidine does not have to be " Buffered". I ground up my 10 pills this morning and put it in my horse's renew Gold and he ate it right up!!! Just don't want to be ruining it. Anyone else crush? Thanks!

When I was waiting for my Omeprazole to arrive in the mail I put the pills in a plastic baggie and crushed/broke them up the with a meat beater. I dumped the baggie in the feed and my horse ate it right up.

I've given Ranitidine pill whole. My horse ate them right up. Just pay attention if there are any on the ground.  Sometimes my gelding was a messy eater. You will not change the action of the pills by crushing.

Crush away but I just buy it from Walmart and throw them into the feed. Haven't had any problem with them eating it.

Yep thanks!! Heard back from the vet just before I got home. She said I can do whatever i need to get them down him. I used a coffee grinder and works like a charm! He eats the powder right up! I'm glad it doesn't have to be buffered like omeprazole.

I give them whole, however I'm sure they taste absolutely horrible because they sure smell like they do. I'm gonna start crushing mine and mixing with applesauce

My mare is so picky so I grind it up in a coffee grinder into powder. I've accidently gotten some of the dust from grinding it into my mouth and it is HORRID tasting lol I mix it with applesauce and give it in a syringe. I mix it with a spoonful of applesauce, very minimum. Then add regular applesauce to the end of the Syringe to give her a better taste after she gets the mixed part.

I will say I really didn't have good results with Raniditine.  Omeprazole worked 100% better.  Just an FYI, I won't use Raniditine again.

Thanks! I am still going to use the Ulcerguard before races. Thought I would just use a little Ranitidine during the week. So far so good! He is keeping his nice positive feeling on it. Omeprazole you really can't give long term but Ranitidine you can. Its cheap so if it doesn't work, I won't have heart burn for the next 175 years.. lol
