I learned over the weekend that I can get the TMJ joint injected. My mare is clearly struggling with a very sore chronic TMJ issue. Has anyone had this done? Are you finding it works? I plan to have it done but I wanted to get some feedback. It seems like a fairly new procedure and I'm finding limited info on the success rate. Thanks!!

Injected the TMJ on a racehorse that was really bad about trying to flip in the starting gates, he was just about to be ruled off the track because he had become too dangerous, it helped him a lot.  We eventually took the flipping halter off of him and he was a pretty good horse after that, only injected him once.

Did you have to make any other changes? Like bits? Or feed? Thank you

I think we kept the bit the same, we eventually were able to take him out of the flipping rig though.  We also used earplugs on him, not sure if that helped or not but he was doing good so we left well enough alone.
