I use it on myself and it works amazing. I've used it on the horses as well but not as often as me because I don't have any big issues :)

I've used the equi-tape, which would be regular kinesiology tape without much success. It doesn't hold on the horses like it would on a persons skin. I just tried the 4" rock tape today on my mare so we'll see how it holds up.

May I ask what you use it for on yourself?

I have runners knee. I go for regular massage and acupuncture. Both have helped it alot but when I have a 'bout' (not really sure how else to describe it) I have struggled to find any relief during these times. I had some equi-tape sitting at home so on a whim I decided to try it. Almost instant relief!
I had a bad wreck at a rodeo on bad ground about a month ago and taped my knee right after... couldnt fall asleep it was so bad. Woke up the next morning feeling better than ever.

I thought it was a silly gimmick until I tried it myself!

What exactly are these things anyway.  I have seen a photo of a horse with a ribbon type thing on him but don't know a thing about them.

I think it COULD help a little but it's more of a fad than anything.

Just as a little experimental update... I rode with the rock tape on my mare and it immediately peeled off with her sweat. So.... might be good on a stall rest situation or maybe right immediately before a run as a support. But, today it was really humid and sweaty so it was hanging down and peeled off her body by the end of the ride.

How do you get it to stick to yourself?  I have tried but it always comes off.

I've never tried it on a horse.  But I can vouch that it worked for me.  I was completely skeptical when my chiropractor wanted to try it on me but it did work.  I think it depends what you are using it for.  He put it on me for a large hematoma and bruise from being kicked (trust me, truly nasty) and it had been a week and 1/2 before I got the tape and the hematoma was not doing much draining.  This tape did wonders withing a couple days.  It even removed some of the bruising.  Where the tape was, was substantially less bruised looking than the areas that did not have tape.

The tape he used (don't know the brand) was amazing at staying on.  I showered with it and even swam twice with it and it was still stuck on good after 5 days.  I took it off because my skin was starting to get irritated due to adhesives.

Never had a problem getting it to stick to me... even shower with it and no issue... After the 5 days I have to pull it off like a band-aid... and it stings just like a band aid when I rip it off lol.

I've used it twice. Once for an elbow sprain, can't say it did a whole lot. And now currently for massive girdle pain I'm having during my pregnancy. I can tell a difference now however. My physical therapist says its hit or miss. Some cases you will notice and some you won't. Since I'm paying for the apt anyways, slap it on doc.

As far as for horses, I have a hard time believing it would work well since they have hair and tape doesn't usually stick well to hair. Plus you have to be able to stretch it a bit so it "rebounds" and holds the muscles together and again, the hair would get in the way and you would lose that stretchy rebound. (That is a horrible analogy so I apologize if it doesn't make sense). But that's my opinion. Mind over matter for some.
