Has anyone tried both the cj cactus and tod slone
(specifically the B3 tree
)? Which would fit a very straight backed horse better?

Both are good for flat backed horses. I use to barrow a friends CJs to use on my straight backed horse and then ended up buying a Tod Slone B3 that worked really well on her.

Which one did you like better for yourself?

I was a CJ fanatic until I realized it made me dashboard my horses neck and my legs shoot behind me. My horse is also a tank and it fit her well but I just couldn't ride it to save my life.
Just a tidbit of info about the ride.

I do have a CJ. It makes my legs go waaaay to far ahead of me. Was wondering if the slone was any better

I think I would say I like the CJ for myself a little more. had a little less of a sitting on a barrel feel.

I love my CJ for my wide horses but my mare who is wide and extreme flat back was making her sore. I switched her to a Lisa wide and it seems to work better for her.

I have a Tod Slone B3 tree and it is the only thing that fits my very wide chested, wide shouldered mare who does not have a very straight back, she has withers and a dip behind her withers, as a matter of fact if I put it on my colt who has a straight/normal back it has way to much rock to it, so I would say it would not fit a straight backed horse in my opinion...but just e-mail pictures to Tod Slone Saddles and they will tell you exactly which tree to get, that is what I did and it fit my horse perfectly and I have tried pretty much every saddle ever made on her before this one LOL. Sorry for the poor descriptions, I am not great at describing what I see in my head LOL
