She's 14 now, we owned her as a 2 yr old at the track, she had 1 out and then was injured in training. Â She was always fat and sassy
(mean & nasty
). We had 3 foals by her in Oklahoma, then sold they had 1 in Oklahoma, sold again they had 3 in Texas, sold to a guy in Maryland she had 1 foal 2 years ago. Â Just by accident I found out she was for sale again. Â They sent me pics and I was saddened by her condition
(they thought she looked great
). Â Was not out to make drama and knowing all the well she was not a riding horse because of her injury and her bad attitude would only get her onto a slaughter truck. Â So we made a deal over the phone had a shipper pick her up, she shipped from MD arrived here in TX Saturday evening. Â She will live here forever now. Â She needs a few 100 pounds. Â Doesn't seem to have a good appetite. Â She's not dull or lethargic still feisty with a BAD ATTITUDE. Â I've had rescues before over the years, never had one that wouldn't eat or only pick at the food. Â Wormed her, teeth will be checked this week. Â I'm thinking ulcers could be one of the problems. Any other ideas? Â I appreciate any suggestions. Â
Summer time is here .. so don't get in a hurry .. you are on the right track with your basic care items below ... now turn her out on decent pasture and in 4-6 weeks start a slow feeding program over the next 2 months to get her on your normal feeding program ...
More malnourished horses are killed by dogooders over feeding them ... it may take a year to get her back to her normal good looking self .. slow is a good thing!!

Â
Good for you that you're getting her back to heath....But, If she always been mean and nasty
(your words
) why would you want her as a broodmare? Sounds like something I wouldn't want to reproduce.
Her foals were all sweet as can be, not one ever had her miserable attitude... In fact one of them is standing here in Texas. He's the nicest horse..
I never said I'd breed her again...my heart said buy her before she winds up on a KB truck...
God bless you for what you did for her. You just got a gold star where it really counts!!
