DLV - 2016-06-21 3:11 PM I sure do love Texas, took a trip there this march and it was fantastic, I fell in love with the Galveston area!! One thing about Texas I hate is that the animal welfare is TERRIBLE here and I know many shelters that regularly Euthanize 20 dogs and upwards of 40 cats a WEEK!!! I wish that there were more responsible people in this State, it sure is a HUGE problem of people not spaying/neutering their pets and maybe not adopting... I just pulled a Blue Heeler from a shelter in Amarillo this week that was scheduled to be euthanized. That shelter is a death camp. :( Sorry for the rant, it's just what I think of when I think of Texas....

That's not myopic at all.

Sorry, it's the truth, I do love visiting Texas, it's an amazing State but the lack of animal control breaks my heart. I've heard it's such a bad problem that in some cities they can shoot strays. There are currently 17 dogs on death row in Amarillo shelter and that's the norm every week there. I don't understand it...

Clifton is nice. Not much there. DFW area is full of barrel racing and roping but land is high and scarce. Maybe look at Waco area? I agree about the heat. It's oppressive and miserable and summer lasts from May to October.

WYOracer - 2016-06-21 1:00 PM Anyone know anything about Lampasas or Clifton? We have seen some interesting job prospects in both areas.

I like Lampassas and you aren't far from big cities if you need one.

We live 45 miles NW of San Antonio and we have a couple of no kill shelters just in our area alone and San Antonio has a great shelter and they have a lot of support from San Antonio and the kill rate is very low.

Galveston is close to Houston..an armpit city, so it wouldn't surprise me that there are all kinds of strays running the streets.

I love the Clifton area.  I lived for 26 years in the Valley Mills area.  It is rocky in a lot of places but that never bothered me as I never met a rock I didn't like.  You are close to Waco and are centrally located so it is not far to anywhere.  I had to move away from there 3 years ago and I still get so homesick.  I am between Huntsville and College Station and I like it okay but the humidity is bad.  My son used to live in Burnet so that is close to Lampasas.  And I would there in a heartbeat.  I love that place.  I don't know how easy it would be to find a place to live though.

I live just north of Weatherford on 18 acres. Brick home, barn and outbuildings and my taxes were $2900. I live in WISD do have homestead and ag exempt. There are literally barrel races every night/weekend within an hour. There are plenty of outlying small towns like Poolville, Peaster, Brock with nice homes/land that are super affordable. Feed stores, Teskeys, Horsemen Supply for all your equine needs. There are multiple big equine hospitals and smaller ones and so many cutting horse facilities. Bobby Cox has a racehorse breeding facility I believe in peaster.

I grew up in se Texas (Beaumont/Orange area). Lived in Nacogdoches and San Marcos. Moved back home, got married and my husband and I found a great place in louisiana, just 10 mls across the state line.

What we have in SE TX/SW LA

HORSE/DEER FLIES
HUMIDITY

Barrel races can be found an hr in any direction so it works for me :)

I ride at 5:30AM or 8PM. I keep fans running in the stalls 24/7. Horses get sprayed down every afternoon but are all doing well. New to the area horses struggle the first summer but they adjust. I love the mild winters. Mild as in doesnt stay in the 30's for long.

We have decided to move back to Texas and have seriously started looking in the Hico, Gustine, Lampasas area. 2 years and we plan to be back.

I live halfway between Cleburne and Hillsboro, west of I35. Absolutely love it out here. Been here for over 20 yrs. Have 102 ac of good sandy loam pasture that doesnt suck a shoe off a horse ! Taxes are low here in Hill County. Lots of barrel races close by, and good covered pens..Glen Rose, Alvarado, Cleburne, Stephenville, Hamilton,i.e.

I live in NE TX. Have all my life. We have exactly the same things. I think you did forget the pine trees. You get a yellow vehicle no matter what color you started out with and this is the sinus capital of the world.
