| What is the best practice you have found to get rid of them and keep under control? |

| BioWash and BioGel!! You can buy it from Teskey's or online from Anjon Animal Health. Gets rid of them and if you BioWash your horse, it will keep them from coming back! Feel free to message me if you have any questions about it! |

| My gelding gets a mild case every summer. I've been using coconut oil. Just rub him down with it every evening |

Location: Missouri | I have a mare with 4 white legs that will inevitably get scratches at some point during the year. MTG is the only thing I've found that prevents it and eliminates it even when she's stuck in grassy pasture 24/7. The smell isn't great, but it works wonders! |

| I've been using no thrush and it has really cleared them up. Also ordered some of "that blue stuff" to try but haven't yet. |

Location: LaBelle, Florida | Coming from a chronically wet southern state and living next to a swamp, here is what I found works the best.
Hosing the legs off with clean water daily. I stall during the day due to the heat and afternoon storms causing scald and rain rot. Horses go out at night, if there is standing water, I hose their legs off when they come into the stalls. |

Yep, I have ONE gelding that gets it terrible from the heat. If it were from mud/rain/etc they would all have at least a little. Nope, just him and he's covered. I dealt with it last year as it was the first time he was out 24/7 in the heat.
I had hoped our barn would be done-that's another story grrrr- but this year he was out in the heat again.
He gets it on his back and butt, he's currently bald.
The best thing is daily hosing, a bath every 2-3 days and just get all the nasty hair off. I finally got the last of his hair off last night, so it'll start growing back now. I have to keep him in our dairy barn on concrete to keep the sun off him.
I hate having him on concrete all day, but it's stocked up legs or a sunburned horse. Once this heat wave passes-soooo Sept??- he'll be good to go.
All of the meds work...I've tried them all lol. But you have to get that hair off first. And hosing the sweat off everyday helps so much. |

| Keep legs clean and dry as much as possible. Also clip long hair around ankles to help keep dry. I find dry cow mastitis medication to work the best at getting rid of scratches, it also works wonders on thrush. You can get it at tractor supply it's called "tomorrow". I've also useg mtg with success or squirted straight penicillin on the scratches. |

Location: "...way down south in the Everglades..." | Has anyone tried "Hay Where's That - Blue Stuff"? I was wondering about it.
I've used a 50/50 mix of Desitin and Furazone and it worked pretty good too. |

I bought the shampoo and their lotion. Gave it 7 days time and it did nothing. In fact the scratches got worse during that week. I do see others have had success with it though. |

Thanks! I may end up trying the one for summer itch, but I didn't know anyone who had used it personally. |

Location: Texas | I mix equal parts triple antibiotic ointment & anti-fungal cream (both equate brand from wal mart). Apply daily until gone. Usually only takes a few days if you catch it early. Cheap compared to all the stuff I bought that didn't work. |
