If no issues, I would say go natural.
I was induced due to my age at the time...37.
I would probably have gone natural in a few more days anyway.
When the induced, I was supposed to get a epidural, however, the ob nurse had my contractions coming so fast that I couldn't lay still long enough for the needle.
After it was all said and done, the doc thought I had had an epidural and reamed the nurse for not having my contractions timed right.
I felt like I had been hit with a freight train.  The actual delivery wasn't bad, but the after affects of the drugs kicked my butt.

I was induced with all 3 of mine and for me it's the only way to go. My labored were long and hard but I think would be equally as hard if not induced. I had a pleasant experience all 3 times and would do it again if we were to have more. I'm a control freak and not knowing causes me serious anxiety. I want to go in on my own measure and things be calm cool and collected. My 2nd delivery was a little scary because my daughter had the cord around her neck but that wasn't the fault of induction and would have happened if I went on my own! Pick your day and go for it!!

First child was natural and second induced due to distance from hospital and how fast the first delivery went.

Showed up for the induction and had to wait for the doctor to okay the suppository because I was having contractions. They inserted the suppository and a few hours later broke my water, 1.5 new baby. Total time about 5 hours with the last 1.5 being delivery.

No problems

I just had my first on July 20th I'm 5 5 and 115lbs prepregnancy. I didn't want to be induced either but did by DR. recommendation at 41weeks 2 days and delivered a healthy 8lb 9oz baby boy. I was induced at 8am, broke my water at noon and delivered at 1:55AM overall was a very pleasant experience. I think he would have came on his own before the weekend. I was already having contractions when I came in and didn't even realize that's what it was LOL I thought it was him moving. Good luck im sure it will be fine !

I guess my advice would be to RELAX and trust that nature will take it's course.

My doctor also had me thinking about an induction date if I missed my due date, but thankfully my water broke at 5:30 PM on my due date and she arrived at 4:49 AM the next morning. This was my first baby. Two days before my water broke I was ZERO dilated. (I had a coworker, also first time mom, be dilated at 3 cm for about 3 weeks before her baby decided to come ... so being dilated really gives you no information, haha.)

My doctor told me most first time moms tend to go 40 weeks or more, so she was willing to let me go 1 to 2 weeks after my due date as long as everything was looking good. But of course, baby came on her own.

I understand why they want to do inductions if you go too long after your due date. The placenta was really only designed for about 40 weeks and you could risk having a less than adequate supply to baby if you go to long. But ...... remember ..... the due date is just an estimation!! Especially if you were not really careful of keeping track of your periods, the doctors is just making an educated guess.

Also, the weights on ultrasounds can be wrong too ... sometimes by a pound or two. That makes a huge difference if they are a pound or two off!

Medically necessary inductions are important and have their place. But I think sometimes it is really better to let nature take it's course if you can, because nature knows when that baby is supposed to come out.

I've had a couple friends who have NOT had good results with induced labor. One of them the induction didn't even WORK. They finally sent her home after nothing was happening, and baby came by herself (natural labor) 2 weeks later. Perfect size and perfectly healthy.

Another friend was in labor for 36 hours with induction and pushed for almost 2 1/2 hours. Was absolutely awful for her. She wished she hadn't tried to "force it" and would have simply waited longer for baby to come on her own.

And yet another friend showed up for her induction, only to be sent home because the hospital labor and delivery were full and had no room with them. So they had to be rescheduled. (She did, have a good induction labor ... but had to be a couple days later than scheduled.)

It's your body and your decision to make, but I'd go as long as you can without it and give baby a chance to come on their own.

I was told that this is actually quite common; about 40% of births.

Not that it's not "scary" but it's a pretty normal thing for the delivery team to see.

Thanks for the replies. Due date is tomorrow, so maybe baby will just come then, if not have an appointment on Monday to decide what we should do.
Thanks again MOMS!

its not very common for a baby to come on the due date. My first and middle were both "late" the middle was an induction at 2 weeks late. Of all 3 labours and births the induction was by far the best.

I would not stress too much just take it day by day, not that its easy when your are so eager to meet the little one!
Best of luck to you.

I actually just read a statistic that 62% of non induced babies are born within a week either way of their due date. Hang in there. Hooefully baby will decide to come within the week after so you dont habe to be induced. :)

I'm from Canada and they seem to induce much less up here and never before your due date (medical complications aside). I was put on the induction list 10 days after my due date and went in to be induced 13 days after my due date. He was born 14 days after my due date and was a healthy 9 lb 2oz. I felt like I had been pregnant forever by the time he was finally born.

I had the same experience as most and eventually went with an epidural. Once that was in it was easy. Once I hit 10 cm I had 20 mins of pushing and he was delivered.

Good luck with your delivery :)

My dr said it's normal for first time moms to go over thier due date. I was a week over on my first and I was induced. I decided against an epidural or any pain meds and my labor was 14 hours long and the pain was constant from beginning til end with no "natural" breaks bc of the pitocin. We had an amazing nurse that helped me thru the pain and the only bad thing that happened is when she broke my water, there was meconium but when my son was born there were no complications. On my 2nd, she was at 5 days over due at my dr appointment and we had planned to induce at 7 days and had her at 6 days over when she decided to come on her own. Again, when my water broke, there was meconium. My little girl was born within 3 hours from water breaking to birth but she had meconium aspiration and was kept in NICU for almost a week. No epidural or pain meds with her either and I honestly think it hurt worse than when I was induced (probably bc she came so fast). The main thing I would worry about with going over is the meconium aspiration, but that's a 50/50 shot. Other than that, I had no complications. I always said I would rather the baby come on it's own but I would listen to your dr and talk about the pros and cons of inducing.
