Does anyone out there have any experience pulling a gooseneck trailer with a Dodge 1500 Eco Diesel 4x4? Would you advise it or steer clear? Thanks.

Again, the problem lies within the stopping capability not pull ability. The diesel powerplant is a torquey piece of equipment in any configuration. Torque equals pulling. But torque does NOT equal stopping.

Ditto. With anything but the smaller 2 horse goosenecks without LQ I would be worried about the stopping bit.
My 3H 9' short wall pushed me around quite a bit when I had a 2500 diesel. Got off the line just fine.
I've seen people pull GN's behind 1/2 tons. I also avoid being directly in front of them going down the road.

I haven't had an Eco Diesel, but I hear they are really underpowered. But after using a 3/4 ton to pull with, I wouldn't go back to a 1/2 ton.

If you want a truck to tow a horse trailer...yes.

Yes we have one. It has no issues pulling our 3H gooseneck, our boat
(which is heavier than the horse trailer
), or any thing else we have hooked it to. We have had ours for a little over 2 years now. Just make sure your trailer has good breaks as others have said it's not the pulling, but the stopping. PM if you have any questions!!

I work in sales at a Dodge dealership. The EcoDiesels are not made to pull heavy trailers. They were designed for the fuel mileage. They will get upper 20s in MPG. If you are wanting to use a half ton to pull a truck just get the 5.7 Hemi. Your stopping power will not be there for either trucks like a 3/4 ton or a 1 ton.
