If you have used the buteless products on your horses, does it actually help with pain and inflammation?I have a horse with a fusing hock and am thinking of putting him on buteless and pure turmeric.Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

I think this is a very wise decision on your part.

No reason to go with something that is proven to work when you can go with experimental methods that might work.

Unless you want to be treating your horse for ulcers I would stay away from regular use of Bute.
I have had good success with BL solution highly recommend it.

Try and see if it works. I know curcumin 95 and boswella help my arthritis. I don't take advil anymore. Between chiro and curcumin 95 and boswellia, I am not hurting at all and no longer stiff from sitting in a car for several hours or sitting at my desk all day.

I tryed the Bute Less supplement didnt work at all.. When I need pain managment I use bute paste and when I do have to use bute I add marshmellow root to their feed so hopefully it helps their tummy if there is a issue, I have never had an issue useing bute paste when I do have to use it. I think the Bute-Less dont do what it says its suppose to do never saw a good outcome of it. .

One could argue that you should NOT put your horse on anything anti-inflammatory while your horse is fusing.

...

...because one of the best case scenarios would be for them to completely fuse!!

If you decrease the inflammation, you will slow down the fusing process. True, some may never fuse at all, regardless. And it's impossible to know who that is going to be. But if they will fuse, the faster they can fuse, the sooner the pain goes away. So..... would a person want to decrease inflammation then? One could argue "no".

But of course, if you want to be able to use your horse while they are fusing, you have to do something to treat the pain.

Joint injections worked very well for my horse during the fusing process. At one point, I did need to supplement him with Previcox to keep him more comfortable. I had him on a feed through joint supplement (PP CJ) as well as Adequan.

I do think there is benefit in "natural" type of supplements such as turmeric, but they are certainly not going to have the same affect as stronger proven treatments.

I had an older gelding I used the pellets and the liquid on and he seemed to do good with both. He was 31-32 when I was giving it to him and would drag his back legs and didn't really have much pep to his step before I put him on Bute-Less and with is he was trotting and seemed to have a little more life in his movements. It made him much more comfortable!!

Hope this helps

That was my old thread referenced above. And Yep, I tried BL products, didnt work, so went with Su-per Substibute from gateway, it has like 10x the potency as BL. Didn't work very well either. Previcox WORKS, but Bute is working even Better and he goes almost 100% sound on half to 1Gram bute daily.
