 You get what you give

Location: Texas | This is the most heartbreaking story I've heard in a while when it comes to a horse. My friend had a very special mare named Katie Mae. She trained her and has been competing on her for the last several years. Last year when I was still competing for most of the GCBRA season, it was literally down to the last race of the year between her horse and mine who would win the adult 1D saddle. This year, Katie Mae and she had one of the best seasons she could have possibly had. She won the open 1D year end saddle and the adult 1D year end saddle for GCBRA this year. And when she was a novice horse, she won the GCBRA novice saddle (which is one of the highest honors in our organization, the novice was what GCBRA was all about when it started years ago). She had a spectacular season this year. It was a hard earned, well deserved win. I have witnessed on multiple occasions where after she would make a good run, Kelly would just cry tears of joy over how special this horse was. It would make me and probably anyone who saw it cry too! Everyone who saw this horse knew how special she was. She was truly talented.
Anyway, Kelly posted yesterday on Facebook that her sweet mare had to be euthanized due to breaking a leg. It just makes me sick. She and her daughter are some of the sweetest, most genuine people you could meet. And they do everything themselves. This year they won Champion and Reserve Champion in the Open 1D, and each of them won the year end 1D in their respective Age group classes on full siblings they both trained. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers, as we all know how shattering it is to lose that special once in a lifetime horse. |
