Hi, starting to think about building a barn. Sharing with my husband, kids, FIL and cows is wearing thin. What sizes are your barns? Also what about flooring? I'm leaning towards packed dirt. Thoughts? Also I'd be finishing it in stages. First stage insulated building. Until I can afford actual prefab stalls I'm contemplating using my portable corral panels as box stalls? Thoughts? Any other tips, etc. I'm eventually wanting about 6-8 box stalls and a few tie stalls with a tack room and feed room. Edited to add: What size box stalls do you all have.

I got lucky and took an old milking barn that was 90 x 105. On the part where they milked and fed the concrete was at a slop so I took rubber mats and lined the floor and then left a 1 inch gap and built a plywood way to keep the horses from kicking through the metal. We lined the plywood with mats also. The 1 inch gap allows me to wash the mats and it drains outside without making a mess. I have 8 12 x 12 with a 16 x 20 insulated track room. We insulated the tack room in order to keep medicenes from freezing. I had the stalls fronts and sides made at a local shop. They are metal bars on top and you put treated lumber in the bottoms. The horses are very protected and can not kick through anything.
