Whiteboy - 2016-11-30 3:14 PM I built a couple of these.  This pic is of the one I copied.  I put a square ton bale in it and it last 8 horses about 2 weeks during the winter.  I have it in a seperate corral that I let the horses into during the night.  Keeps the bale off the ground.  They eat it fast enough that the top is not really that useful.

Do y'all have trouble with the horses fighting? I just don't see my 5 being in that close of quarters and not having issues with each other. I'd really like one of these!
Not really.  They have thier pecking order.  I have one mare that will wait until the others have eaten for a bit before she will venture into the crowd.
I'm wondering how well the wood would hold up down here. Wood doesn't seem to last long. I like this feeder.

Yeah I bet that could be a problem.  I have a buddie that lives in Austin that just built one with Trex and treated redwood.  Its a composite material that is used for decks.  He claims its holding up really well.  http://www.trex.com/

I thought about this and mentioned it to my wife.

She just laughed...
