I have a paint gelding that I just cannot seem to find a saddle to fit. He's a tank. Wide through the chest but is really wide and thick through the shoulders. He is built a little upright so he doesn't have the longest stride and it seems to me that my saddle is just getting in his way. So...long story short..I'm on the hunt. Trying to get an idea of where to start my search for a saddle that fits. He is seeing a saddle fitter to get an in person opinion of where to start with specifics but I haven't bought a saddle in so long that I'm confused with all these greats brands out with all the new tech stuff.

Have you seen any certain saddles that work better for big horses?

Caldwell saddles -you can take a pic and send to Charon at Caldwell and she can help you- they have several trees that fit a very wide variety of horses- the maxxed out and the ultra rocket trees are extremely wide there are videos on the Caldwell saddle web page that you can listen to any a lot of advise and information given- every person who has ridden in a Caldwell who I have talked to say they wouldn't ride anything else- they are not cheap but they are worth every penny and they will trade you for a different tree if the one you pick isn't right - also if you ever want to sell one you won't have a hard time getting it sold in a hurry -so they are a good investment

I have a brut. I had a crown c with a 9" gullet that fit him but didn't fit me well. We both like a pozzi with the #10 tree.
