Location: Idaho | So there is a huge possibility my boyfriend may be getting reassigned to Florida later this summer at Tyndall Air Force base, which is located east of Panama City. I know it is 6-7 months down the line, but I am a big believer in planning ahead!
Was wondering if there are any barrel racers in that area? What does boarding look like? My gelding is currently on pasture and I would love for him to stay on pasture. Also what does the barrel racing scene look like down there? Any info would be great, thanks :) |

| I'm not sure what the going rate is for boarding, but you can find multiple races every weekend pretty much all year long! |

Location: Idaho | oh that is good!! I was a bit worried because I am planning on starting to run my gelding this year, and in Oklahoma there are barrel races all the time. I am happy to hear the consistency is about the same :) |

Per se' .. you would not really be in Florida ... you will be way up in the panhandle and your best bet is to figure out several barrel associations that are active also in the southern areas of Alabama and Georgia ..
Lots of natural beauty to see in that region and the seafood is fantastic!!
HAVE FUN .. |

Location: "...way down south in the Everglades..." | Yep there's a handful of us on here! I'm no where near Panama City but I can definitely tell you that barrel racing is huge throughout the state. You'll have no problem finding places to run. Since you'd technically be in LA as they call it (lower Alabama), I'd definitely check into Dothan, AL...and I know Blountstown, FL has some stuff. NBHA is big in Florida and you'd be in district 7. I spent a little time up that way and I know it's cheaper than my area of Florida re: boarding, feed, housing, etc. but can't give you exact prices as it's been a long time. Definitely a beautiful area though! |

Location: Feeding mosquitos, FL | Lots of jackpots, two NBHA districts (FL1 and FL7) since you'd be right on the border between them, a bunch of PCA rodeos (most in Alabama), and just a lot of stuff in general within 2 hours. Oh, and the giant Jeffers store in Dothan!
Finding pasture for your boy shouldn't be a problem. Lots and lots and lots of open space up here in the 'handle
I'm on the east side of Tallahassee so a good two hours from there but could hook you up with some people on that end of the world who may be able to help get you situated if that transfer comes down.

Location: south GA | In that area you can hit something almost every weekend. Dothan has a saddle club. Mainly just point shows but good for young horses, practice runs, or to just get out and meet some people. I am on the board of directors, you can PM if you want more info on it. About 30 minutes up the road from Dothan is Tumbleweed ranch and they have several 1,000 or more added jackpots a year. Lots of options around Mobile, AL too. |

Location: Florida | I moved to PC back in November from Alabama. I am still trying to find a place to board my 2 horses. All of the places I have contacted have been full or are stall board. One of mine would go crazy in a stall, so that is really out of the question for me. If you find any places let me know and if I find any I could let you know I will probably look for a hauling buddy in the future too! |

Location: Idaho | Wow, thank you so much for the replys!! That sounds awesome and it makes me very relieved haha
I feel you about the stall boarding! My horse was in a stall for the majority of his life, but he has been on pasture for a little over a year and I LOVE it for him. He is so much calmer and relaxed, and I think has allowed him to mentally develop well as he grows!
I will keep you guys in mind, I won't know for a couple more months where we are going but I am really having my fingers crossed for Florida. We went down there in July and I really liked the environment itself.
ETA: Oh I'm always down for a hauling buddy too!!! :D

Location: In the land of peanuts and cotton | I'm just across the Alabama line about an hour and half from PC. I think you'll love it. Between FL07 and the other Florida district that I'm not sure what is plus AL06 and depending on how far you want to go AL05. As well as other jackpots and rodeos you should have plenty. As a added bonus you'll live near some of the best beaches and restaurants. I know a lady in PC that may have some spots avilible for boarding if you want to message me I'll send you her contact. |
