I looked at this trailer model new at Congress 2016.  This dealer, by far, was one of the more helpful ones there.

http://www.kerlintrailers.com/2016-kiefer-manufacturing-genesis-8103-w-sierra-lq-front-sofa-horse-trailer-UwN%7C28.html

I was very impressed with the trailer and my farrier was also.  He liked the thick welds and the how the craftsmanship was somewhat meticulous like how the rivets fit together in the equine area.  All the lines were flush and there were no sharp, shifty looking edges that looked like a problem waiting to happen.  The hinges were very thick and solid piece metal practically.  I actually priced this trailer down into the 40's with my trade in but still couldn't make the payments comfortable enough for me to carry the 15 year loan on it.  It worked out for me anyways as my mare suffered a pretty serious injury a month later anyways and will be off for the next year.

I have a 2003 keifer and I love it. Built very very well!!! You will not regret buying a Keifer. I can promise you that.

Maybe they have changed their quality, but my family had two run-around trailers made by Keifer and they fell apart insanely fast, with very little hauling. A divider fell down in one trailer and the other trailer, a horse kicked the back door completely off. Every time we went to take it, something new was broken. We've had a few different higher quality brands since then, and none of them have had any issues.

Thought I did my research and bought a Keifer Genesis 3H slant trailer and I know that I take excellent care of my trailer. I use it most weekends in the summertime and rarely in the winter. So far I have replaced ALL of the hinges, The doors (with the exception of the living quarters) twice and had the side reinforced where it was sprung away from the back. Also the floor is warped and while not dangerous for the horses can be unnerving for them. This being said........why do I have it still? Cause I love the living quarters and the company that did it is no longer in business. Would I buy another? NEVER

Thanks for the info. That's seals the deal for me. I'm gonna pass on it. I figured once I heard that they changed ownership a few years ago that they probably weren't built as well as they used to be. That seems to be the pattern. Too bad. I'll wait for something else to come along :) thanks all
