| Seriously considering accepting a pipeline job where I'd be back and forth through these states for like a year! I've never been to any of these places...
I'm starting to freak out a little, the barrel racing there looks pretty minimal, I'm not finding any ads for any big races, etc...
Can you please tell me I'm mistaken? |

Location: Ohio | Mostly NBHA and IBRA up here. Not very many big shows in Wv or Virginia (unless you're willing to haul to Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana) but may find some closer to NC and SC. |

Location: Kentucky | I moved to NC (west central) from West central Texas 2 years ago. The barrel racing here is nowhere as plentiful as Texas, but there is enough to go to for me. I would say that in the warmer months (feb/March to oct/nov) there is something within an hours drive 2 to 3 weekends a month and there is a place thirty minutes away that has weeknight jackpots every week. Most of these barrel races have over 100 entries so decent sized. Also probably 5-8 bigger added money races a year within a tolerable distance.
A few things about barrel racing out here. 1) it is not advertised like it is in Texas. There isn't really a regularly updated central calendar (that I have found at least) so you have to make friends and add ppl on Facebook to find the event pages. 2) things aren't run as regimented out here. Back home you would go and they would run 50 an hour so you would pull up, run, leave. Here it is much more leisurely... it's a culture where you go and sit all day and socialize. Sometimes ppl have barrel races at their home arena. Not good or bad, just different than I was used to and interesting to note!
Send me a message of you have more questions!

Thank you! Omg I'm spoiled by Texas and Oklahoma. I can't imagine spending all day trying to run two horses, I'd probably lose my mind! Looking at it, I'm thinking the horses are going to have to stay home this round. I really don't have the time it takes to make a ton of contacts to find out where the races are, I'm pretty in and out within a few months in several different locations. It usually takes me a while to find people that can tolerate me! :)
We'll see! |

Location: Kentucky | Well let me know if you change your mind! At this point I have enough contacts to find a good number of races so I could help you out. I also board at an awesome barn that needs another barrel racer! ;) I will say that I absolutely love everything else about NC! It's so beautiful here, the seasons are amazing, and cost of living is better than where I was in Texas. Planning on moving back to TX eventually so I can sacrifice a few barrel races for gorgeous foliage for these few years!! |

| I live in WV! There's a lot of SEBRA rodeos in these states, PA, OH, and MD. There's a lot of IBRA shows in the Morgantown, WV and Waynesburg, PA areas and horse shows down in southern/western WV and eastern OH. There may not be as many as some places, but they're definitely out there. Welcome |

One of my favorite arenas in the area and very close to where I live. |

Where do you live in NC? I recently moved to Hickory and have not found a boarding barn for barrel horses. I need a place for two horses for a few months. |
