Member Posts: 5	I have a mare that has scar tissue at an old puncture wound site. I had the vet check it and they said, just scare tissue leave it. Winter comes along and she isn't getting ridden and it has now close to doubled in size? I have a vet appointment later this week but I was just wondering if anyone has had experience with this or could it be something else? What have you done to reduce scar tissue? It does not affect her when I push on it. Please share regardless if good or bad. Thanks,

We bought an equivibe last spring and since her scar tissue has diminished by about half. I've tried it all and honestly the equivibe was not purchased specifically for this reason. I noticed within about 6 weeks that it felt and looked much smaller and tighter. I don't think it'll ever go away completely but it definitely has gone down and in the past we have injected the joint where since using the equivibe we haven't had to!

Expert Posts: 2258	I had a mare with a fairly large amount of scare tissue on her cannon bone from an old injury. I was feeding her an herbal solution and also rubbing it on her legs never thinking about it reducing the scar but it did and was almost gone in a few months. I can't remember the name though I heard about the product on here and haven't been able to find it again in several years but you mixed the herbs with SCV and water makes about 5 gallons and you can pour on grain or use externally. I also now have a magnawave and it does work on things like this to a certain degree.

It does not affect her when I push on it. Please share regardless if good or bad. Thanks, My daughter's barrel horse has some old proud flesh from a puncture wound above one of her hind fetlocks. Hers seems to puff up in the winter, especially when the snow is deep. Not sure if the cold irritates it or what. It never gets really bad, just noticable. She's had it for 7-8 years. It always sucks down again once she's exercised, and never seems to bother her or get worse. Certainly doesn't affect her performance.

Member Posts: 5	This is kind of what I was thinking is that is swells up in the colder temps. We are in North Dakota and I only noticed it after the last cold snap. It certainly doesn't bother her and when it was smaller it wasn't even noticeable. I am hoping once we start to leg up it will start to reduce in size. Thank you!

Elite Veteran Posts: 670 Location: Running my kids somewhere.	I would like to know as well. I have a mare that has a scar on the front side of her hock that builts up like their chestnuts do. it doesn't bother her but can get almost 1 inch. I haven't found anything that will slow it down.
