I use sweetened condensed milk, Epsom salt and alum or leg mud, Epsom salt and alum. It works great usually. I now have a PEMF machine and can usually pull them in 24 hrs with it, if someone near you has one would be worth a try.

I had never dealt with abscesses until my current gelding who had several one after another after I got him home.  My farrier is good at getting them opened up and drained wheras I am afraid to go digging on my own.  Once it has opened up the relief is immediate.  I have since started using pads and he hasn't one since (knock on wood!).

The PHT bells boots will help draw out an abscess pretty quick.

1 cup oxy clean, 1 cup epsom salt mixed with enough hot hot water to cover hoof. Water should be as hot as the horse can stand. This will make an absolute mess as the oxy clean will bubble all over and turn into a paste. Soak for 30 minutes. I soaked in the late afternoon, abcess blew out overnight, soaked again as a precaution. It worked for me in less than 24 hours you could say.

This was my timeline: Horse was fine for a show on Saturday, dead lame on Monday, soaked Tuesday evening, abcess blew out overnight, soaked Wednesday morning as a precaution, left again on Thursday morning for a show to run on Saturday. She was not lame at all.

Good luck.

Wrap with the Animalintex pad. It can draw a cat through a keyhole as my vet says.

Yes, Animalintex is awesome!  I also keep White Lightning on hand to mix with white vinegar and soak feet when needed.  You can also mix arnica tincture with sugardine to pack around the abcess once it blows or is opened up, it will help with soreness.

Tea tree oil! With this lovely wet weather I have been battling them one after another. Tea Tree oil is the only thing that stopped them. Unfortunately had to try all the expensive products first. Went to whole foods and found the oil for $5.
