I have a filly that just LOVES to catch the lead change off the first barrel.  In fact, she thought it was so fun she couldnt wait to do it, making her first barrel turn wickedly quick.  The only thing wrong is she is REALLY REALLY playful and would throw in a buck along with the change!  LOL  Seriously I was scared to get after her too much because she was having so much fun with it but I know some of the horsemanship guys would have told me not to accept that behavior.   I just took my time with her and she quit bucking.  I had to get off of her in her 5 year old year for an injury.  Wondering what she will be like when I bring her back this spring.

Yes, I'm sure Ed would have had you counter arc right there to "get after her", LOL!!! We tried that with my little mare and she started doing the lead change and then counter arcing herself, decided it was part of the pattern...oops!

I've always left mine alone and let them figure it out for themselves.

I've had 2 that I had to take that approach on also. But typically I like to be able to know that lead has been changed long before we have to have it changed.
