 My Heart Be Happy

Location: Arkansas | My daddy was diagnosed a year ago with aortic stenosis (I hope I'm saying this correctly), and he put the surgery off "because he didn't feel bad". Well, when he went back to the doctor last week she said his heart was much worse and she wasn't even sure he could have the surgery now. She scheduled a heart cath for yesterday. (Chandler had taken Momma and Daddy the week before but he wanted me to take them this time. He was so scared something would go wrong or that we would get bad news---he lost his father a year ago and he just is plain terrified of losing Daddy now.) Not much was said on the drive to Little Rock (2 1/2 hours) because we all just KNEW the report wouldn't be good; Daddy's age, genetics, past and current lifestyle/eating habits, and our luck all played against him. His appointment was at 12, but of course it was late when they took him back (2:45), so we had even more time to worry. When the doctor came in to talk to us after the procedure (Momma, Sean, and I), I think we were all three holding our breath. He said everything looked ok and that he knew there was the value issue. . . . I blurted out "blockage????" Doctor says "Oh Mr Chandler has no blockage"----Momma and I almost squalled. Sean asked about his heart being too bad to operate on the valve---the doctor said Daddy's heart was pumping good and looked strong and he saw no problem with having the surgery to repair it. My family (both sides) has dealt with blockage, stents, and open heart surgery since I was little---I had never seen normal arteries that weren't blocked til we looked at Daddy's pictures yesterday. Amazing. God gets all the glory on this one. When we told Daddy what the doctor said, he started shaking all over. He had been terrified of the results. We know we still have the valve surgery to go thru, but I can't express to y'all what yesterday and the results meant to me and my family. At least it won't be complicated by blockage. A true blessing was given to us, and we are so thankful. I just wanted to give God praise for what He did. (The car ride was much different going home---Daddy and I were the only 2 awake, and we talked a lot!!)
I'd also like to use this thread (sorry, it's really a book) to ask y'all to pray for Chandler; it will be a year Saturday that Chris died. Seems like it was just yesterday that I was on here telling BHW he was going to die and that the flood was getting in Momma and Daddy's house. . . . Sean and I are taking Chandler and Laura to LR to the PBR because I thought that would be better than his just being on the farm that day and thinking. And his birthday is Monday---my baby will be 19. I know I am always on here asking for y'all to pray; I do it because I know I have my true friends on here that will come thru for me. I thank you in advance for the thoughts and prayers. . . . |

Location: In The Snow, AZ | Had a tear in my eye reading about the good news. God is so good to us. As you know, my grandma was having heart issues that the cardiologists did not think she would live through. She has since had two surgeries to repair the three blockages, and although her heart is working at approx 33%, it IS working. Her life is finally getting back to normal and she feels good. Sorry, wasn't trying to steal your thread. I just marvel sometimes at His goodness.
Prayers for Chandler. I remember your posts last year about his father passing and the flooding. It doesn't seem like it's been that long! I hope your son is able to enjoy is birthday this year. |

Location: Kansas | My dad died in 1971 at the age of 63 of a heart condition. At that time heart surgery and bypasses were not a common thing......if they had been I'm certain he would have lived to at least his 70's. You are so lucky your dad can be helped with these now-common procedures. Brought back memories when you talked about eating habits (and other unhealthy lifestyle habits). My dad smoked a lot and loved eggs and bacon. Even after his first heart attack when the doctor told him to ease off, he just wouldn't do it. It was tough losing him.
So glad at point there's a better future in store for yours.

Location: Arkansas | Daddy has a follow up appointment on the 28th, and I feel like the surgery will be scheduled pretty quickly after that. And y'all KNOW I'll be back on here to update and ask for continuing prayers. . . I feel so so blessed that I still have both my parents; neither one has terrible health issues to be their ages. (I guess I should amend that to say until now, with Daddy's heart situation.) Daddy will be 74 this year and Momma 71. We're very close, and the immediate family is just Momma, Daddy, Chandler, and me. I appreciate all of you sharing your experiences and prayers with us. It helps to know other people out there understand what we're going thru. . . . |
