Opinions on this feed

I am looking to add this to my current alfalfa/oats/flax diet to further balance it. I am not a fan of "ration balancers" but this is made with no corn, soy, wheat or molasses. All organic and non-gmo plus the feed rate is very low. Any one ever feed this or have opinions on it before I order?? See attachment below...

Looking at the ingredient list, and from the fat level and protein shown in the analysis it is pretty clear that this is mostly a lightly fortified alfalfa pellet. Any significant amount of Flax meal or Stabilized Rice bran in the formula would give you a significantly higher fat level in the guaranteed analysis. If there was much coconut meal present, and again, the flax was more than a token amount then the protein level would also be higher as the alfalfa meal alone would give you very close to the 15% shown in the information that you provided. Since you are already on an alfalfa based diet I am not really sure what would be gained with one pound of this formulation and what would be balanced. There is some interesting ingredients down at the bottom of the list, but it is hard to tell if they are in effective inclusions. There may be some value there, but I am not comfortable with a "concentrate" that is mostly roughage with it listed as the first ingredient. You are already feeding that same roughage. Since ingredients must be listed from most used to least used and coconut meal is that high in the list the numbers show that there can't be much of it actually in there, nor can there be a lot of anything else listed behind it in the ingredient list. If you are concerned that certain minerals are lacking in your roughage just feed a well balanced mineral support. If you want the Redmond clay or other additives that are way down the list of ingredients you can get those without buying the alfalfa pellet at your local feed store. That company has some good quality organic poultry products, but I have a hard time getting on board with this one.

you feed Oats and ALfalfa already so Id just up ration if needed and add mineral but this seems like a waste with your current program but just my opinion..

I agree. This is a "filler feed" so I would want to fill my horse with more oats and alfalfa than with supplements. Supplements should supply what your feed program can not and your program is not bad I would just increase the amounts.
