Been halter breaking a quarter/poa 2 year old filly for a family friend and now wanting to maybe buy her from them. Shes super smart and a quick learner. He is the kind of guy if I ask if he wants to sell he will say name your price, so how much do you all think shes worth?

Depends on size, color, location, conformation.   But mostly what she is worth to you.  Remember you can go up in your offer but not down.  I bought a really nice, 5 yr old Adult broke Grey pony gelding and felt like I paid a premium at 1000.00  Look on craigslist in your area and see how they are being priced but remember that is how they are priced not what the bring. Good Luck.

Offer what you think is fair. It's hard to put a price on a horse based on description only. Even if a horse is grade, if they are well made and good minded, I will pay respectable price.

If the pony has papers, that would make it worth more.  Many of the POA breeders out there are now breeding to short QH stock in order to get taller ponies that move more like QH.   POAs are QUITE versitile, but they are breeding that out of them in hopes of getting that stupid little pleasure horse lope.  I had a POA who was competitive in all events 20 years ago.  Could go out and win showmanship, english, jumping, cart, western pleasure, and smoke a 21 sec. pole pattern.   Not sure you could find many like that anymore.

I'd say somewhere around $1000 if the pony has papers.  Otherwise, 500-750 probably.   I would also base it on how tall you think the pony will get.  A 56" POA is large enough for most to ride and still be in the pony classes.

If you are already putting your time into this horse have they paid you any money?? If not you could take that off the price of the horse. Something to think about when you decide on a fair price.

Thank you everyone! I don't think either sire or dam were papered but I'll definitely ask.

Depends on your area and the quality of the horse, but I'd say $500-800?

With not riding and just halter broke....without papers $200-$300.  If there are papers and could be represented as a POA, $500-$600.

I just picked up a 13' hand pinto pony, cute as a button.  Was broke but has been sitting for a few years.  My daughter can do anything with her on the ground but still working on the riding refresher for $600.

You can find un-broke ponies any day of the week in my neck of the woods advertised for $500 or less.
