Horse losing hair and not normal

I live in a cold climate and I just relocated to a new home this past winter. I've had my horse for 3 years and never had a hair loss issue before. He is missing hair on his butt from what looks like rubbing because I can see the lines from scratching. But he's also missing hair on one side of his face. They are like streaks so could be from rubbing. But what is most concerning is he's missing hair underneath his face in between his jowls. That part is circular looking. He does have a full winter coat and has been rubbing on the barn and trees alot with shedding season starting. Plus our winter has been crazy with highs and lows almost weekly. Any ideas? I'm thinking about calling the vet but wanted to see what people think??? My concern is he has a skin disease and if so I need to get ahead of it now.

My new colt went from freezing snowy climate to warm sunny southern CA. He did just what you describe. It was such a big change for him that he shed BALD and was rubbing like crazy. I got one of those shedding tools and took to it 3x a day. I was also feeding a skin and allergy supplement and he quit itching and just kept shedding. Now he has his hair back and it looks beautiful and amazing!! Only took 30 days. Beginning to end.

Thank you. Good to know. I haven't changed climate but the previous 2 winters were fairly mild compared to this one. What supplement did you use?

If the weather was warmer I'd wash with an antibacterial shampoo but the highest it's been has been high 40's. :
